Our System Requirements page is a handy resource for those needing to know what hardware and operating systems we support across our product range. With two important changes coming up, we felt a blog post was worthwhile.
Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 reach end-of-life in January. Although most people have now moved away from Windows 7, Server 2008 R2 remains a popular choice. As Microsoft will no longer be supporting these from January, we too must remove them from our supported operating systems list.
Due to forthcoming enhancements, PICS will require at least .NET framework 4.8 and .NET Core 3 for Desktops runtime libraries in the new year. If you’re not sure whether you have these versions, please speak with whoever looks after your company’s PCs. The files you’ll are .NET Core Installer x86 and .NET Core Desktop Installer x86 (even for 64-bit systems) and .NET framework 4.8.
If you’d rather not have to deal with issues like this, you may want to consider switching to our PICS Hosting platform. PICS Hosting is a service where all PICS software and data is hosted by Pellcomp on our secure servers, with users connecting to the service though their web browser using Remote Application technology. This means you’ll no longer need to worry about keeping PICS, and the underlying infrastructure, up to date. For more information, contact our Sales team via email@example.com.
