Dunnie, the single dropout percentage that we support in the plan-based profiler is applied halfway through the total duration of the plan. Although it would be technically possible to support dropouts at other stages, discussion with users has made it clear that, in general, this would be an unwanted complication, and give a spurious air of accuracy to what is, when push comes to shove, a collection of estimates.

If you need to weight the dropout rate towards the beginning of the programme, you can of course achieve roughly the same financial effect by increasing the mid-programme dropout percentage.

So, sorry, but we've no current plans for introducing month-by-month dropout figures in plan profiling. As always, if a sufficient body of users tell us that they really need this, we'll reconsider.

Some further news in this area. The next release of PICS (version 14.50, for 2011/12) will have a new feature in PelControl which allows key items in a single partner's data to be added to the join file. This does not replace the full join of data: it brings across only the values necessary to calculate funding and produce an ILR, and is designed to be used when late submissions from partners would otherwise delay the submission.

Mark, there's nothing sinister here. MS Windows 2000 (client and server) hasn't been supported by Microsoft since July last year; we don't recommend the use of unsupported platforms, and we no longer test any of our software on this platform. There are, however, no known problems.

Craig, funding for Z9OP aims is the same as for other unlisted aims: it's taken from the GLH that you enter in A32, which then goes through the usual manipulation to arrive at an SLN for the aim, and hence to some money.

Get in touch if you need more detail of the funding calculation. And just a word of warning: the aims are zed-nine-oh-pee, not zed-ninety-pee (a common source of confusion).
